I’m excited about a new thing I’ve started testing in my business recently: quizzes.

Why use quizzes in the first place?
One word: data.
Wait, don’t cringe! I know data is a scary word, especially with all the new GDPR rules having every business owner and blogger pulling out their hair. But alas, data is essential for building and running a successful business.
Here’s the thing: To build your brand and make a profit, you need leads (people to opt-in to your email list). Lead magnets/opt-in freebies, such as PDF ebooks, are excellent tools to get folks to sign up for your email list because they’re high quality and educational. The downside of creating something like this is that they can take a long time to produce, and unless that exact resource fits the exact need for your particular visitor at that exact moment, they don’t always lead to a signup.
Nowadays, it’s a good idea to have interactive opt-in freebies in your toolkit, such as a multi-part video series, an easy-to-digest email course, or, you guessed it, a fun or insightful quiz. The first two take a lot of time to produce, but a quiz can be created in a matter of minutes. In addition to ease of creation, quizzes in particular are great to use in your business for a couple key reasons:
Quizzes help build your email list.
If content is king, then your email list is the Hand of the King. Your email list holds an endless number of keys and bits of knowledge about your audience, and building a killer email list is the most effective way to build your brand and your profit.
It’s like fishing: when you post on social media or buy an ad, you’re casting one or many small nets into a wide pond in hopes that you get a few bites. When you send a newsletter to your email list, that net is much wider and the pond smaller, as you’re speaking directly to people who want to hear from you. Not people who might want to hear what you’ve got going on, or who’d rather hear from that other awesome guy or gal.
Wide net + small pond = more bites. And with quizzes, you make biting all the more fun!
Quizzes are fun for users to take.
If you’re like me, you’ve spent an inordinate amount of time on Buzzfeed learning what type of dog breed you are or what your actual age is based on your favorite movies with their quizzes. Why? Because they’re fun, simple, and don’t take a lot of time to do.

Views. This is the number of people who saw your quiz. Pretty straightforward.
Starts. As you’d imagine, this is the number of people who started your quiz. I think this stat is a good indicator of whether you’re on the right track title or offer-wise.
Completions. Aptly named, this is the number of people who finished your quiz. What’s more, Interact will show you at what point your quiz takers drop off, which is important when deciding how to tailor your quiz next time around.
For example, if you see a lot of gradual taper as the quiz goes on, your quiz might be too long (try to keep it around 2 minutes max … this shouldn’t feel like work!). Or, if you see a significant drop off at one question in particular, you’ll know that question might be too complicated or invasive and can update it accordingly.
Leads. Here’s where we get into the good stuff: the number of people who opted-in to your email list. Let’s say you create a quiz and you get nine leads (so, nine individuals opting into your email list). That’s fantastic! You’ve got nine new people who want to learn more about what you’ve got to offer. You’re well on your way to building your empire, you business extraordinaire. But what you’ll need to look at next in comparison is your quiz’s conversion rate.
Conversion Rates. This is the percentage who opt-in. For easy math, let’s stick with those nine leads. Nine leads out of 10 completions is a 90 percent conversion rate, which is FANTASTIC (and almost unheard of but hey, we’re doing easy math). Now, if 100 people take your quiz and nine opt in, that’s a 9 percent conversion rate, which looks paltry in comparison to 90.
And that’s why it’s crucial to keep an eye on your conversion rate. It’ll help gauge how well your quiz is performing relative to how many people are taking it, and will help you determine what about your quiz you need to change.

I personally love quizzes because they’re fun and easy to take for the user, and as a business owner, they’re going to help me continue to build my email list and give me the insight I need to continue giving you exactly what you need.
